Carlos Edriel Yulo, a 24-year-old Filipino gymnast, secured the gold medal in the men’s floor exercise at the Paris Olympics. This historic win is the Philippines’ second Olympic gold and the first for a male athlete. Yulo achieved a score of 15.000, narrowly edging out Israel’s Artem Dolgopyat by 0.034 points.
The achievement has electrified the Philippines, with the government announcing a reward of 3 million pesos and a new apartment in Taguig City for Yulo’s outstanding performance.
Yulo, who started gymnastics at age 7 and moved to Japan at 16 for advanced training, has an impressive record, including two World Championships, three Asian Championships, and multiple Southeast Asian Games medals.
