The transfer window for English and Scottish league clubs has closed, and Premier League teams have set a new record with a staggering £1.96bn in total summer spending. This outlay was more than double that of Italy’s Serie A, solidifying the Premier League’s financial dominance.

Eight Premier League clubs broke their transfer records, with Chelsea, Brighton, and newly promoted Ipswich leading the spending spree. Brighton recorded the highest net spend at £153.6m, while Chelsea continued their spending spree under Todd Boehly with a net spend of £46.5m.

Notably, Manchester City turned in the lowest net spend among Premier League clubs, making a £115.8m profit, while still managing key signings like Brazil’s Savinho. In contrast, Ipswich and Southampton were among the promoted clubs that splurged nearly £300m combined to boost their squads.

The transfer deadline day was eventful, with significant moves like Jadon Sancho joining Chelsea and Ivan Toney heading to Al-Ahli in Saudi Arabia. Manchester United secured the most expensive signing of the day, bringing in PSG’s Manuel Ugarte for up to £50.5m.

In a surprising move in League One, Birmingham shattered the third-tier transfer record by signing Jay Stansfield from Fulham for over £10m, marking an unprecedented level of spending for the division.
