The Hong Kong Bulls have secured their spot in the 2024 National Basketball League (NBL) Finals after defeating Changsha Wantianyong 98-80 in Game 4 of the semifinals. The victory gave the Bulls a 3-1 series win, setting them up for a championship clash with Anhui Wenyi.
The Bulls, led by coach Xie Libin, made adjustments following their previous loss, replacing Sun Chenran with Dong Jian in the starting lineup alongside Jones, Carlton, Diao Zhanwang, and Zhu Songwei. The strategy paid off as the Bulls took control early, opening with an 8-0 run and finishing the first quarter with a 33-16 lead.
In the second quarter, the Bulls extended their lead to 24 points, thanks to a strong performance from reserve player March, who contributed 11 points. The Bulls led 56-36 at halftime.
Despite a more even third quarter, where both teams scored 24 points, the Bulls maintained their 20-point lead. In the final quarter, the Bulls remained steady, never trailing and clinching the 98-80 win.
Key players included Jones (23 points, 14 assists, 6 rebounds), March (21 points), Zhu Songwei (12 points), and Lu Duiwei (13 points). Coach Xie praised the team’s growth and emphasized the upcoming challenge against three-time champions Anhui Wenyi in the finals.
The NBL finals will follow a best-of-seven format, with the Bulls playing away games on September 14 and 16, followed by home games on September 19 and 21 at Siu On Stadium.
