Jessica Pegula advanced to the US Open final after an incredible comeback victory over Karolina Muchova in the semifinals. Despite losing the first set 1-6 and falling behind in the second, Pegula turned the match around to win 2-1 in sets. After the win, Pegula admitted, “I don’t know how I managed to come back. I think I was lucky not to be beaten.”
Muchova had her chances, leading 3-0 in the second set, but her 40 unforced errors proved costly. Pegula capitalized and fought her way back, setting up a highly anticipated final against Aryna Sabalenka, whom she lost to in the Cincinnati final. “This is my chance for revenge, but she will be tough to beat,” said Pegula.
The US Open final will be another chapter in their growing rivalry as Pegula seeks her first Grand Slam title.
