Karim Benzema believes Kylian Mbappe must adapt to playing as a central striker at Real Madrid, as the French star cannot displace Vinicius Junior on the left wing. Since joining Real Madrid after his Paris Saint-Germain contract expired, Mbappe has netted eight goals in 14 appearances. However, he’s struggled recently, scoring only once in his past five games.
With Vinicius excelling in his preferred left-wing position, Real Madrid’s manager Carlo Ancelotti has placed Mbappe centrally. Benzema, speaking on Spanish TV, explained that Mbappe doesn’t naturally fit the role of a number nine, and while he’s under immense pressure, he’ll need to adjust. “Mbappe needs to get it into his head that today he’s a number nine,” said Benzema, emphasizing that the position shift will challenge Mbappe in a competitive Real Madrid environment.
Real Madrid’s former forward also warned Mbappe that failing to score consistently as a number nine could create issues, pointing out that the pressure is far greater than at PSG. Reflecting on Real’s recent 4-0 defeat to Barcelona, Benzema encouraged Mbappe to stay focused, emphasizing the unique demands of Real Madrid.
