In a thrilling all-China final at the 2024 Paris Olympics, the world’s No. 1 women’s doubles badminton team, Chen Qingchen and Jia Yifan, also known as “FanChen,” triumphed over their fellow countrywomen Liu Shengshu and Tan Ning to win the gold medal. This victory was the culmination of years of hard work and determination, finally securing the one title that had eluded them—the Olympic gold.

The match began with both teams evenly matched, trading points in a fiercely competitive first set. Chen and Jia managed to edge out their opponents with a 22-20 win, setting the stage for the second set. Building on their momentum, the FanChen duo stormed ahead early in the second set, taking a 10-4 lead and eventually sealing the deal with a 21-15 victory.

This gold medal completes the career Grand Slam for Chen and Jia, who had previously won every other major title in badminton. Their journey has been marked by resilience, especially after their narrow loss in the Tokyo Olympics final, where they took home the silver.

China’s return to the top in women’s doubles badminton, after missing out in the last two Olympics, is a testament to the strength and depth of the nation’s badminton program. Chen and Jia’s golden moment will be remembered as one of the highlights of the Paris Games.
