In a significant move, the Los Angeles Lakers have reportedly signed Skylar Mays, a seasoned NBA player with four years of professional experience. The news comes on the heels of Mays’ recent release by the Portland Trail Blazers.

Skylar Mays, a former standout from LSU, had been contributing 6.3 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game during his tenure with the Trail Blazers. His shooting stats stood at 38.4% from the field and 28.6% from beyond the three-point arc in 21 games.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Skylar Mays is set to ink a two-way contract with the Los Angeles Lakers. This development was confirmed by Mark Bartelstein of @PrioritySports.

Wojnarowski’s report reads, “Free agent G Skylar Mays has agreed on a two-way deal with the Los Angeles Lakers, Mark Bartelstein of @PrioritySports tells ESPN. He’s spent parts of the past four seasons with Portland and Atlanta. He gives the Lakers some point guard depth.”

Mays, who was selected as the 50th pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, boasts a wealth of experience having played for the Atlanta Hawks and the Portland Trail Blazers over the past four seasons. His career averages include 4.9 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game, with a shooting efficiency of 44.3% from the field and 34.3% from beyond the arc in 88 regular-season games. Additionally, he has participated in nine NBA playoff games and was part of the Hawks’ journey to the Eastern Conference Finals in 2021.

The Los Angeles Lakers, currently holding the tenth seed in the Western Conference, have posted an 18-19 record in their first 37 games of the season. Recent performance shows them going 3-7 in their last ten matchups. However, they managed to break a four-game losing streak with a victory over the Los Angeles Clippers, winning 106-103 in their most recent home game.
