Great Britain’s Lauren Rowles and Gregg Stevenson delivered a spectacular finish to clinch the mixed doubles sculls gold at the Paralympics in Paris. Trailing behind China’s Lius Shuang and Jijan Jiang with just 100 meters left in the 2,000-meter race, the British duo staged a remarkable comeback to secure victory in 8:20.97.

Shuang and Jiang, who had led for most of the race, were left heartbroken as they finished 2.48 seconds behind to claim silver, with Israel taking the bronze. This gold marks Rowles’ third Paralympic victory, following her wins in Tokyo 2021 and Rio 2016 alongside former partner Laurence Whiteley.

The win was part of a golden day for Great Britain in rowing, with Ben Pritchard also securing a gold medal in the PR1 men’s singles sculls. Pritchard executed a thrilling comeback, overtaking Italy’s Giacomo Perini in the final 500 meters to finish in 9:03.84, earning Britain’s first gold in the division since 2008.

In the mixed double sculls PR3, Annie Caddick and Sam Murray added a silver to Great Britain’s tally, narrowly edging out Germany by just 0.12 seconds after a fierce battle in the final stretch.
