Former Spain international Juan Mata has officially joined A-League club Western Sydney Wanderers on a one-year contract. The 36-year-old midfielder rose to prominence at Valencia before moving to Chelsea in a £23.5 million transfer. During his two seasons with the Blues, Mata became a fan favorite, scoring 33 goals and providing 53 assists in 135 appearances, while winning the UEFA Champions League, FA Cup, and Europa League titles.

Mata later transferred to Manchester United for £37.1 million, where he spent eight and a half seasons, contributing 51 goals and 43 assists in 285 games. After leaving United, Mata had brief stints with Galatasaray in Turkey and Vissel Kobe in Japan, where he won league titles, though his playing time was limited.

Mata joins the A-League following in the footsteps of former Brazil international Douglas Costa, who signed with Sydney FC earlier this year.
